Why the name TAK
Tack is a word used in the equine world, it is a general term for the leather accessories you put on your horse (saddles, bridles etc.) I have chosen to produce the TAK range of leather collars and leads in bridle leather because it is a superior leather that wears and handles beautifully in all conditions.
A little about me
Growing up a country gal in the South Coast, now living in the city I find myself caught between two worlds. I love the simple Country lifestyle but also enjoy the Modern feel of the City. Design is in my blood and TAK has brought my two worlds together. The elegant contemporary yet simple design of TAK brings together FORM & FUNCTION.
I have always been very drawn to animals, from the very first time I touched a horse that was it,I was in love. I have been lucky enough to have had my life filled with these beautiful animals. My First Pony was a flea bitten Grey called PRIDE, I adored that pony. I have been lucky to have other horses I have called mine over the years. KLINGER was next, A handsome 15.2hh almost black 1st cross quarter horse. Then SARAH a feisty 16.2hh Chestnut Mare with a near perfect blaze, Along came BILL (named after my grandfather) a 17.1hh warmblood as kind as he was big. there was a stream of others Lad, Cadet, John and a big mare called Duchess who quite literally gave me the ride of my life. But the real horse love of my life was JACK a huge 17.3hh Thoroughbread, unfortunately he is not with us now as his life was caught short but he is always in my heart.
My first dog was Basil a little tan Sausage dog who was small but fierce , since then I have had many dogs in my life. Ozzie - German Shepherd, a little dopey but super sweet. Zoe - Bitza, Clever and affectionate. Boof -Bull terrier, Lets just say he had a few roos loose in the top paddock (if you know what I mean). Bruno - English Staffy, my kids first dog, he loved you unconditionally but if you had 4 legs and fur you had better beware. Currently we have 2 dogs in our family Chester - English Staffy (quite literally the best dog ever) & Olive - Bitzer, Cute as a button but a little naughty, we love them dearly. Our Olive is still a pup and can be quite a terror at times, My husband Richard continuously threatens her with being returned to the Sydney Dog & Cat home, I hope she knows he doesnt mean it.
Hand crafted using the finest quality Leather & Brassware
TAK bridle leather is hand cut and prepared using select grade steer hides. All TAK products are hand stitched by leather craftsmen. TAK products only use the finest grade solid brass hardware available. To finish the process the leather is then edged and hand rubbed, this softens the edges of the leather and draws the natural oils out producing an elegant soft to the touch finish.
Why do we only use Equine Grade leather
Having been an equestrian for most of my life I have handled bridle leather day in and day out, a good quality bridle will last a life time, equestrian tack is really put to the test in all kinds of weather and conditions, rain, mud, sweat, dust, heat to name a few. Bridle leather is the best quality leather available, it is known for its hard wearing properties yet is soft to the touch for both the horse and its handler, It also wears better with age and is less likely to crack and break giving you a superior product that should last the lifetime of your beloved pet..
Why Rolled Leather
Rolled leather collars are generally more comfortable on both your dogs neck and on your hands. Rolled collars are really well suited to hairy dogs or those who prefer a more elegant looking collar around their dogs neck.
Why a name plate
Having owned many many dogs over the years and replacing countless dog tags I decided to overcome this problem, by attaching a plate with all relevant info your dog will always have identification. The other reason is because they look so elegant and smart on any dog big or small.
Why only one style of Collar & Lead
Quite simply because TAK rolled leather collars and leads are so beautiful, hardwearing, comfortable and elegant. Our collars look fabulous on any dog whether a pedigree or your regular run of the mill bitzer. Be confidant that your beloved pet can leave home looking sharp, feeling comfortable and being safe.
Caring for your leather
Using a soft cloth with a very small amount of soft detergent such as wool wash wipe over the wet collar/leash and rinse, remove excess water and leave to dry. Then using what ever type of olive oil you have in your pantry place about the size of a 10cent piece in the palm of your hand and rub over the the entire collar including the brass accessories, the warmth of your hands will help the leather absorb the oil, remove any excess oil with a rag and then pop back on your pooch. Done! How easy is that!
